Halloween is coming up quickly, and the kids in your neighborhood may be getting their costumes ready. They might be starting to plan their routes, and your home may be on the list! However, as candy-filled this holiday is, you may want to do your part in preventing cavities. A simple way to do this is by giving out some items other than sugary sweets. Here are four that you can consider instead.
1.) Another Type of Snacks
You may still want to give something the kids can enjoy, but won’t cause as many problems as candy. Some options that they can munch on are:
- Pretzels
- String cheese
- Apple slices
- Raisin boxes
These aren’t filled with sugar but are popular snacks that many kids love. While you may think about making them yourself, stick to prepackaged, store-bought items. That way, parents can feel more comfortable giving it to their child than homemade goods from strangers.
2.) Small Toys
Candy is short-lived. It gives a sweet taste for a bit, but it’ll run out until the kids eat another piece! A choice that will last much longer is small toys. Mini bubbles, mazes, pop fidgets, and springs can be played with more than once. These are just a few options, but there are many more out there! Getting a good variety can help ensure trick-or-treaters can find something they’ll love to have.
3.) Accessories
Themed stickers, rings, and bracelets can be a good addition to a child’s costume. It can give some pizazz, but glow-in-the-dark ones are some of the best to hand out! Kids will think they look cool during the night, but they are especially great for safety. As it gets darker, it may be harder to see them as they go door-to-door. However, with something glowing around their neck or wrist, they’ll be much more visible.
4.) Themed School Supplies
School supplies may sound boring, but some kids do enjoy getting them! By giving themed ones, like a brain eraser or pencil that’s decorated with bats and ghosts, they can still be in season while being useful well after the holiday.
Although you may have been a little lost on what to give aside from candy, consider the four choices above! They can help you be a part of the holiday while doing what you can to prevent cavities in their growing smiles. You can put your own little spin on them and maybe become a memorable stop that night!
